Summer Soft Skin: No Beach Necessary

The beach is one of my very favorite places in the world to be. So, it should come as no surprise that when it comes to skin care products I love it when I find a quality line of lotions, bath products, and other personal care choices that not only nourish and care for my skin but also can transport me right down to the water’s edge with a breezy, tropical scent.

Beauty Brite Disclosure

Nubian Heritage is one of a few favorite brands when it comes to both keeping my skin looking and feeling great, as well as providing a nice variety of scents that I love. Our sense of smell is central to everything we do from preparing delicious meals to recalling nostalgic personal memories to promoting calm and relaxing atmospheric ambiance in our surroundings. It’s no wonder that companies that produce essential oils and diffusers, candles, potpourri, perfume and cologne, air fresheners, etc. are such a big business. We all use these products to invoke a response from within to find peace and calm in our lives.

In the Fall, I love woodsy, outdoor scents. Spring finds me using fresh, clean smells in scented products. Winter and the holidays usually spurs me to seek out mountain smells or ones like a burning fireplace or cranberry. Each season inspires certain favorites, but my summertime love of tropical scents is probably the one exception to the rule since I love filling my nose with the smells of coconut, lime, mango, pineapple and all things beachy no matter what time of year it happens to be on the calendar.

I think I love tropical scents so much because it takes me back to my early teens, when I lived in a small coastal community in the Florida panhandle. My friends and I had the run of the town and spent a lot of time at each others’ homes, riding our bikes or walking around, riding the shuttle buses to the beach resorts (cuz, hey, Florida summers are hot, and the buses were air conditioned!). And the best part about living where we did, was super easy access to the beaches.

Nubian Heritage’s Mango Butter Collection of skin care products checks a lot of important boxes for me. First, and foremost, the body lotion goes on smooth and makes my skin feel rejuvenated, firm and yet super soft. The mango scent is really nice. It’s formulated with stuff that’s good for skin — carotenoids, antioxidants, and vitamin C. Also, important to me since I’m an animal lover, it’s cruelty-free. Nubian Heritage products are all free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, parrafin, DEA, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil, petroleum, and artificial coloring — all things I love to avoid in something I use often on my skin.

My husband, our kids, and I often vacation in this town that holds so many wonderful teenage memories for me. And while it’s grown — like, a lot — it will always be (for me) a magical place. So, tropical scented products are always on my radar when I’m out shopping. Skin care products, like hand and body lotions and bath scrubs are the quickest and easiest way I can transport myself to the beach at a moment’s notice.

Sand writing at the beach during sunset.

My family recently visited the beach for the first time in a few years for a much-needed getaway. It was too long between trips, but the kids are all older with their own stuff going on and the hubby is busier than ever at work and just, well, life. Ya know? So, I took full advantage of the opportunity to spend every day by the pool or at the beach with my feet stuck into the sand, with a piña colada in my hand more often than not, and a good book to dig into.

Book - Ever Alice by H. J. Ramsay

I’m a huge Stephen King fan, so The Outsider got packed for beach reading. But, even the King took a back seat to another great read I took along, Ever Alice, by H.J. Ramsay. I wrote another article about it, you should definitely check it out if you’re a fan of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland. It takes a really good book to bump Sai King down to number 2 on my reading list, so props to Ms. Ramsay! It’s really a great book. And, do not fret, Stephen King got his turn to have his pages flutter in the beach breeze and endure drops of my piña colada dripping on the pages, too, during the week we were relaxing and recharging. It’s all good!

That week at the beach flew by way too fast, but luxuriously slow at the same time. And even though we’re home now, I still have Nubian Heritage Mango Collection products in the bathroom to slather myself with after I step out of the bath so that I can temporarily time travel back to my chair on the beach, listening to the surf, and feeling the warm breeze any old time I need a quick mental refresher.

You can find Nubian Heritage products in Vitamin Shoppe stores (find one near you) and at the Vitamin Shoppe online store.
