Pre-Teen Skincare Doesn't Have To Be Complicated

Beauty Brite Disclosure

I see it asked a dozen different times in several mom groups I follow on Facebook, what skin care products should I get for my pre-teen? I then see another dozen different responses on what companies, which specific products worked for their child, why they didn’t like another recommendation provided, and the list goes on and on. But, let’s not make it any more complicated than we need to. Every skin type follows the basic principles when it comes to finding a routine that works best. Pre-teen skincare is no different.

When it comes down to it, the brand doesn’t really matter when deciding which pre-teen skincare products you’ll buy for your pre-teen. That isn’t to say that some brands won’t work better than others or allergies to certain components of a companies skincare line won’t occur BUT the cost isn’t always a determining factor on what works best.

A basic face wash, an exfoliant, a toner, and a moisturizer are literally the necessary items for a good skin care regimen. For pre-teens with very little problems skincare wise, I find that Neutrogena or Clean and Clear are the best skin care lines to go with.

For purposes of this post, I will be using Clean and Clear‘s NEW Lemon line but you can swap it up with other brands or even other Clean and Clear products that better suit your pre-teens needs.

One of the most important aspects of a pre-teen skin care regimen regardless of the age is that you use an exfoliant and a regular face wash too. I usually like to exfoliate in the morning and leave my basic face wash for at night since I also like to use a makeup wipe remover in the evening. The idea of the exfoliant is that it is going to get rid of dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores, removes other dirt and impurities from the skin as well leaving deep clean and smooth skin behind. You don’t want to over exfoliate your skin though which is why a simple face wash is necessary as well. Ideally one should wash their face in the morning and at night. (If your pre-teen is getting into makeup then I would definitely recommend the exfoliating wash in the morning as well so that they can get an even make up application.)

Another great step in a skin care routine is to add a toner. A toner? For What? I know, I know. But really, it helps! From my personal experience using a toner is great for getting missed dirt or particles off of the skin, and in most instances, it even helps even ones skin tone. Think dark spots, red areas, etc. Clean and Clear has a great lemon juice toner that was released in their Lemon collection that is alcohol-free (non-drying) and has vitamin C which is great for brightening skin, but you can also use another brand if needed. Even basic witch hazel works well as a toner. Ideally, you should use a toner in the morning after washing your face AND in the evenings after you wash your face.

The final step and in my opinion, the most important step for pre-teen skincare is to moisturize. Even those with oily skin need to moisturize. The type of moisturizer, however, is solely up to you and your pre-teen’s skin needs. I have a mix of dry/normal skin so I go with a gel water-based moisturizer. My nephew who is 10, has oily but dry skin so Aveeno works best for him. If your child has some issues with acne, Clean and Clear has an awesome moisturizer that helps fight breakouts while moisturizing the skin as well.

Do you have a pre-teen that is always on the go?

That’s okay! Clean and Clear’s NEW Lemon Juice line has them covered with on the go cleansing wipes! No water and only a minute to complete. They can even exfoliate while on the go with Clean and Clear’s Lemon Juice Exfoliating Slices.

Clean and Clear Lemon Exfoliating Slices, Pre-teen skincare

I used Clean and Clear’s Lemon line in this post because I feel like Clean and Clear is such a well-known brand as you can find it in any drug store, grocery store, beauty supply store, etc. and I also really like how the Clean and Clear Lemon line isn’t necessarily for problematic skin which makes it the perfect starter line for a pre-teen. You really can’t go wrong with a little extra vitamin C for the skin for a brightening effect either! The lemon scent is also very versatile for either gender.

You can find the Clean and Clear Lemon Juice line at the retailers below:

Clean and Clear Lemon Gel Cleanser: Walmart, Target, and Walgreens.
Clean and Clear Lemon Zesty Scrub: Walmart, Target, and Walgreens.
Clean and Clear Lemon Juice Toner: Target
Clean and Clear Lemon Cleansing Wipes: Walmart
Clean and Clear Lemon Exfoliating Slices: Target and Walgreens.

While not a part of the lemon line, I wanted to include Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Moisturizer which can be found at Walmart, Target, and Walgreens for those of you who have preteens that face acne breakouts.
