Become A Fat-Burning Machine: The 12 Week Diet by Mike Berland with Gale Bernhardt

Basically, the premise of Become A Fat-Burning Machine is that Mike Berland is cluing all of us in to the fact that many Americans suffer from something called Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a condition in which the human body is designed to store fat, not burn it. Mike had to do a lot of research, which included talking to many people such as medical professionals, nutritionists and fitness experts and take all of the little nuggets of information and put them all together to get a clearer picture about his the human body works. What he found was that there are certain foods that burn fat and others that store fat and that eating the right types of foods, combined with the right kinds of physical activity will help your body to burn its fuel (food) more efficiently and work for you instead of against you. If you have found yourself putting on a few pounds a year no matter what diet or exercise regimen you try, pick up this book and give it a read. It’s laid out in a very easy to read format and full of common sense information, advice and actionable plans to help you to devise an eating and activity plan that will work to get you in the best physical health of your life. Check out Mr. Berland talking about his journey to writing this book on Dr. Oz:

I have read umpteen fitness, health and exercise books and tried diet after diet and workout upon workout … all with no lasting results. After reading this book and implementing some of the food tips and choosing an activity plan that fits into my lifestyle I can tell you that I am starting to feel better already and have lost a few pounds in the process. I haven’t been at it long enough to share definitive results, but I am more enthusiastic and invested in my health after reading this book and am very excited to monitor and chart my own results to reflect back on down the road after I have been at it for a longer period of time.

The thing I like best about this plan is that it’s not hard. I don’t have to do a lot of work in terms of planning and documenting, because really, who has time for all of that?
