Every Friday night we’ve developed a special ritual in our house: Family Movie Night. At the end of a long week, it’s a chance to come together, bond, and reconnect as a family unit. Each of us has really come to look forward to these special Friday nights!
Being five years old, my son doesn’t have control of much over his life; between listening to us and his teachers, he has a lot of authority figures to contend with. Family Movie Night is the one opportunity where he gets to be the boss! We let him decide where we’ll get carry-out from (he usually picks Kim’s Restaurant, our favorite place for Chinese food) and we put him in charge of what family-friendly movie we’re going to watch that night.
When our son saw Pete’s Dragon in theaters, he was completely mesmerized. This made my husband and I incredibly happy because we enjoyed the original movie when we were kids. I’m pretty sure when my son left the movie theater, he wanted a dragon of his very own!
Pete’s Dragon is sweet, soulful story about an orphaned little boy named Pete. With no family or home to call his own, he forms a deep friendship and loving bond with a magical dragon named Elliot. The old wood carver, Mr. Meacham, has told stories about a mythical dragon that lived in the woods for years, delighting the local children of the town. His daughter, Grace, works as a local forest ranger and after an encounter with Pete, such starts to wonder if perhaps the wonderful “stories” her father told may actually be true!
