A Highlight Palette That Gives a Subtle Glow

Mally Highlight Trio opened on the package
If you watch YouTube beauty videos and read beauty reviews you know that many makeup “gurus” love a highlight that can be seen from outer space. I totally get it. That kind of shine looks amazing… just not on my skin. I have fairly oily skin, especially during the summer, and I don’t want to add to that. So if I can find a subtle glow with my highlighter I’m really happy. One subtle glow I’m enjoying comes when I use the Soft Focus Lowlight and Highlight Trio ($35) from Mally.

Mally Beauty is a brand that you just don’t hear people talk a lot about, and that’s disappointing. I first heard about the brand several years ago from Emily Noel on YouTube, and I instantly fell in love with the line. It’s affordable, they’re now easily accessible at ULTA Beauty and Kohl’s department stores, and I’ve had amazing luck with the handful of products that I’ve tried.

The highlighter kit features three shades: Mochi Martini, Rose All Day, and Bring on the Bubbly. First, LOVING the names. The palette is slim and definitely travel-friendly, with a generous size mirror that could also double as a mirror to apply your eye makeup. The highlighters swatch really nicely. The highlight shades are soft, nicely pigmented, and apply to the skin beautifully. They don’t empathize any pores or texture like some highlighters do. Like I mentioned earlier, this is definitely a subtle highlight, and I absolutely love it. When I wear a primer, the highlighter will last several hours. If I don’t and I’m out running around doing errands, it won’t last nearly as long.

What I really like is the back of the box has a “how to use” section that states where you should apply each of the shades. I think this is really helpful for anyone who is either new to wearing makeup. What’s also really nice about these is that they can double as shadows. Anytime I’m feeling lazy, I’ll apply Bring on the Bubbly all across the lids, add some liner, mascara, and I’m good to go.

This is a really nice palette that’s reasonably priced, and definitely worth checking out. If you like your highlighter to be super sparkly and seen from miles away, you will be disappointed. If you’re looking for a natural looking highlight that gives you face a subtle glow, this may be the palette for you.

  4. Sandy Bonesteel says

I’ve been afraid to try highlighters. I want to try them, but am worried about looking glittery. This highlighter sounds nice though.

  5. I really like the tones this comes in, they look like they would work well with my skin. I also like that this sounds like it’s not a shiny reflective mess, there’s a fine line with highlighting!

  6. Lindsay A. says

I love how neutral this palette is – I’ll have to check it out!
