New Books For Summer Reading

While the June weather in Chicago doesn’t seem to match up with typical summer, it’s here! Which means it’s time to pick out a couple of books that I plan on reading during my free time this summer. I spend a lot of time working, freelancing, and working on my blog that I neglect my books and being able to relax a little bit before I go to bed.

Summer Reading Novel #1 – Then There Was You

Then There Was You Novel Cover

To kick off my summer reading list I have two new books that I was sent to read, and I’m so excited about both. They’re completely different books too! Normally, I just stick to same type of book — Nicholas Sparks style.

For me, I like to start off the summer reading a book that’s a light, easy-read. The perfect book for that the award-winning author, Miranda Liasson. Her novel is Then There Was You, which takes place in Angel Falls, the hometown of Serafina Langdon. This charming small-town has a love of memories for Langdon, including a wedding that never happened. Even though it’s the last place she wants to be, her grandmother needs her, so she joins her dad at his medical practice so she can have time to decide what she wants to do with her future. Like every novel, there’s a twist. Her first patient is police chief Colton Walker, the man who sabotaged her wedding.

These two never got along, and after an incident at the bachelor party, he’s considered Enemy #1. More twists include a steaming kiss, which ultimately causes him to fall for her. Once her ex-finance returns, Colton has to decide if Sara is the women worth fighting for… instead if fighting with.

So far this book is such a fun read! It really is light and easy, perfect after a long, bad day at the office. I’m already just about half way through and I can’t wait to see how everything turns out.

Summer Reading Novel #2 – Side By Side

Side By Side Novel CoverSide by Side is a different kind of love story… a notorious one. Jenni Walsh is known for taking readers and transporting them into a different world, one that’s set in historical or contemporary settings.

Set in Texas, 1931, we’re in the height of the Great Depressing and Bonnie is miles from Clyde. Yes, this is the story about the infamous Bonnie and Clyde! Clyde is currently locked up and she is waiting, and dreaming of a life together, which is currently dwindling each day he’s away.

Clyde is released and comes home from prison a different man — one who is distance and damaged. He can’t keep a job, and is dogged by cops. Bonnie knows that it won’t be long before the law comes for him. As we all know, there’s just one road forward for her.

This book came after the other, but I am so excited to read this! I love books about historical events so I can’t wait to read and see everything that happens to this notorious couple.

Time to Kick Off Summer Reading!

I have a few other novels on my list of books to read this summer, but these two are just the beginning.

Let us know what you plan on reading this summer! I’m always looking for recommendations.
