Books That You Will Love

Books That You Will Love-House of Shadows by Nicola Cornick-Last Chance by Gregg Hurwitz

Beauty Brite Disclosure

I love to read. I have since I was a kid. I remember the highlight of one evening was waiting in line for the last Harry Potter book to come out. We waited for three hours and were first in line. I had that sucker read in about two days. (Yes I’m well aware how much that dates me) As a parent reading is my time that I set aside for myself and gives me a chance to breathe and recover from the day.

To me there is nothing like walking into a bookstore. There’s just something about the smell of printed books that is so calming. The feel of the page turning in my fingers, the smell of a book, of ink on paper — there is just something so incredibly satisfying about it that I can’t explain. For me it brings the world back to a calmer pace.

Last Chance

These are two of the newest books I was really excited for, so let me share my thoughts with you.

The first book is a book called Last Chance by Greg Hurwitz, a New York Times best-selling author. This is an awesome book in the young adult category.  Last Chance is the next book in The Rains, an apocalyptic zombie/alien series.

When every adult starts turning into the shell of their former self, controlled by some alien-like creatures and trying to kill everyone under the age of 18, it is up to the Rain brothers to save the world. Moreover, what’s scary is that once you turn 18 you yourself turn into one of these creatures.  What makes the Rain boys different? How can the Rain brothers save the world? Will they be able to protect the ones they love? Read this thrilling tale of terror, excitement, and maybe even a little romance along the way.

House of Shadows

House of Shadows by Nicola Cornick is a story that comes to life in the hills of Oxfordshire, who have hidden away the Ashdown House. You will journey across time periods in this historical thriller to become encased in a tale of three women to find out how their lives intertwine and what secrets they hold. From a Winter Queen to a missing brother, one never expects to be confronted with the secrets of someone long again. BBC Radio proclaims that this is “A gripping readâ€, and I couldn’t agree more!

Both these books are a must-have for any avid book lover to add to your collection. I really enjoyed reading both of them because they were so different in writing styles but each tells such a compelling story.

Interested in adding some new books to your collection? Which of these would you be most interested in reading?

I think the concept of Last Chance is really interesting. All young adults have some sort of trepidation or fears about adulthood. So it’s interesting that this book depicts an exaggerated version of these fears of adulthood. I worked in bookstores as a teenager. So the smell of books is like home to me.

  10. Jeanine says

These sound like some interesting books. I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I’d like to so that needs to change. Maybe I can check them out!

  11. I would probably love the second book, I love historical fiction. English books in particular are fascinating to me.

  15. I love to read as well. I just don’t have the time to do it! I am going to add some of these to my check out list!

  16. I think Last Chance would be my choice if I had to read one of them. I am going on vacation for the holidays, and I do need some books to run through – this might be a possibility. Thanks for the recommendation
