It’s that time again!

Back to school

We have counted down the days all summer long for this. Some for the sanity of a silent home and others because their children genuinely love school. Either way, I have compiled a list of 4 healthy snacks to add to your grab and go stash for back to school.

If your children are anything like mine, they are pretty picky about the things they like. As a mother of four, I have come to find that if one child likes a snack then expect at least two of the other three to most likely hate it. This makes it complicated for figuring out what snacks I can buy that are simple to just grab and go. I am the “hot mess” mom. I will own up to it proudly. I am the one rushing out the door last minute with little time to spare. This list of goodies was a hit with all four for various reasons, mostly the range of flavors and textures, BUT these goodies are also perfect for on the go.

Health Warriors Chia Bars

Starting at Number one we have Health Warriors Chia Bars.

The main ingredients of these bars include: Coconut, White Chia Seeds, Brown Rice Syrup, Cashew Butter, Unsweetened Coconut, Organic Brown Rice Crisps (Organic Brown Rice, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Sea Salt), Chicory Root Fiber, Rolled Oats, Arabic Gum, White Grain Sorghum Extract, Almonds, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt, Mixed Tocopherols (Natural Vitamin E). This does change depending on the flavor you choose.

The flavors include:

The very best part is the flavor actually tastes exactly like the treat you are expecting it to while packing in a decent amount of fiber and other nutrients for your day. Give their protein bars a try if you are looking for an extra boost of protein and energy.

I absolutely loved how the Health Warrior Chia Bars tasted. I don’t think there was a single one that we did not like. They had the perfect amount of sweetness to them and they also tasted exactly like what we were expecting which I feel like so many “healthy” snacks deter away from. I want healthy snacks but I do not necessarily want to give up the flavors I am craving and HHealth Warrior Chia Bars do not disappoint. I also like the added crunch factor per se from the chia seeds.

Once Upon a Farm fruit smoothie pouches

Taking place at number two on the list of Four Healthy Snacks to Add to Your Back To School Stash, is Once Upon a Farm fruit smoothie pouches.

These are prepackaged fruit smoothies that have no added sugar and 3-5 grams of protein per pouch. Now, these do need to stay refrigerated since they are free of added preservatives that other brands to keep shelf life at room temp. Once Upon a Farm has their new Storybook Super Smoothies and a line of Toddler Blends due to release soon so definitely be on the lookout for those to hit shelves near you.

I have to admit that I am guilty of buying the fruit pouches in the canned fruit aisle because that is what my kids like. The Once Upon a Farm fruit smoothie pouches are easy to open these no matter where you are as a quick snack. In the car, at the doctor, in the grocery check out line (please pay for the item) or even at the playground. These brands I had been buying are healthy but not as healthy as Once Upon a Farm fruit smoothie pouches. Once Upon a Farm uses all organic products and no added sugars.

My crew got to try Story Book Super Smoothies in the flavors of:

  • Strawberry Banana Swirl
  • Apple Eating Greens
  • Berry Berry Quite Contrary

Even my oldest who is the pickiest of the bunch had zero issue with these flavors. Our favorite was Strawberry Banana Swirl and it literally tastes just as I would expect an authentic Strawberry Banana smoothie to taste. I also LOVE how the pouches are larger than traditional fruit pouches, so you know your child is getting a decent amount of nutrition from these pouches, not to mention Once Upon a Farm adds in healthy fats such as quinoa, flax seed, coconut oil, and avocado to make that much more nutritious.

You can find these delicious smoothie pouches at big retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Kroger, and Target in the refrigerated aisle.

Number three for my list of Four grab and go snacks for your stash is Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites.

Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites

Like Woah, guys! Imagine the shock on my face when my texture sensitive four-year-old tried these bites and asked for more. He is such a picky eater and we have had the worst time getting him to branch out. I may have fibbed and told him it was candy so he would try it but he absolutely enjoys these bites which is why I had to add it to the list. Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites are the perfect taste of sweetness while still being healthier than other options on the market.

Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites are heart healthy, gluten/dairy free, low in sodium, GMO-free, VEGAN, and absolutely perfect for on the go. For being small in size aka perfect for small hands, they come in at 6 grams of protein to help fuel your little one through the day. These bites were actually just released to the market this past June!

Phyter Plant-Based Food Bars

For the final recommendation on the list of Four Healthy Snacks to Add to Your Back to School Stash, we have Phyter Plant-Based Food Bars.

My daughters both love fruits and veggies. They are their go-to preference over any other type of food. I don’t always have the time prep them a goodie bag of fruits or veggies when we are in a rush. That’s okay though. Guilt no more! Phyter Plant-Based bars are made 100% from fruits, veggies, and other nutritious ingredients.

Phyter Plant-Based Bars are vegan, kosher, gluten free, soy free, and dairy free. The lack of dairy is great for me because two of my kids have allergies to milk. Phyter bars can be kept in the freezer for 1 year, your refrigerator for 6 months, or at room temp within 3 days of being taken out of the fridge/freezer.

Some of the flavors available include Sweet Potato + Coconut, Beet + Cocoa, Butternut Squash + Peanut Butter, Kale + Apple, Berries and Peanut Butter. Our favorite was the Berries and Peanut Butter. It had just the right amount of sweetness to go with the peanut butter to give it an overall winning taste with my girls. We actually tried it straight from the freezer as I had heard others really enjoyed the bars this way too and honestly, they thought they were being given an ice cream treat. Huge win for me! I also love the fact that if you forget to defrost in the freezer, you can still take it for on the go and let it thaw or eat it frozen. The fact it is still good for 3 days at room temp is awesome too because we all know how “forgetful” kids can be with their snacks.

Healthy Snacks for back to schoolI also wanted to give a huge shout out to Thirty-One for helping me get my little one prepped for back to school. We received the Lil Go Backpack in Charcoal Crosshatch and their Cool Zip Thermal in the Shark design. The Lil Go is perfect for toddlers because it is proportionate to their body size but still big enough to hold the materials they need for school. I also adore the Shark Cool Zip Thermal because it can hold little treats, such as the Once Upon a Farm Smoothie or the Phyter Plant-Based Bars with no issue of keeping them cool until he eats them. The thermal can also be cleaned with soap and water should it need to be cleaned which is a huge help with messy toddlers.
